Why is there Condensation on the Outside of My Window?

Why is there condensation on the outside of my window?

This is a question we get this time of year. People get concerned when they wake up to see condensation has built up outside their windows overnight and think there is something wrong, when in fact it means something is very right! It means super efficient double glazed windows, it’s one of the signs that the windows are highly insulated and are working effectively.

Below is a piece of text from the GGF (Glass and Glazing Federation) Condensation Brochure. The brochure explains condensation perfectly both inside and outside of the window.

“Due to recent innovations in the efficiency of double and triple glazing, along with updated requirements of building regulations and the lowering of carbon emissions, certain weather conditions may allow the formation of external condensation on energy efficient windows and doors. This is a natural phenomenon and a clear indication that the window or door is preventing heat loss from your house”
